How do I reset my GM instrument cluster?

January 20, 2020 By fred Leave a Comment

How do I reset my GM instrument cluster?

Your 2003-2006 GM gauge cluster may very well be malfunctioning as it’s a very common problem on these years and you may be wondering how to reset it. Unfortunately there is no real way to “reset” it other than to simply unplug it and plug it back in which likely won’t fix any of the common problems that they have. It might get your needles to reset back to zero temporarily but if the gauge motor is the root problem, which it usually is, then the needle will simply act up again sooner or later.

Other common problems that they develop are dim or dead PRNDL screen, dim or dead odometer screen, odometer ERROR message, language menu constantly scrolling across the odometer screen, battery drain, total power failure that can be intermittent or permanent, can sometimes come back on by hitting the dash and can sometimes be worse during cold temperatures. Unfortunately none of these problem can be solved by resetting the instrument cluster either. These kinds of problems will require gauge cluster repair.

If you have any questions about your specific GM instrument cluster problems or would like a quote on the repair of your gauge cluster please email fred@drspeedometer.com

Is Your Suburban Speedometer Stuck?

November 14, 2014 By fred Leave a Comment

Are you having problems with a stuck speedometer in your 2003-2006 Chevrolet Suburban?  This is a very common problem on the Suburban and is a definite sign that your gauge is going bad and will need replaced.  When you have a stuck speedometer fixed you have a couple choices, you can replace just the  single speedometer motor and that will fix the speedometer problem.  Or you can have us replace all the gauge motors while we’re in there including the tachometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge and battery (volt) gauge.  This way you won’t have to worry about those going out later on.  Given enough time all the gauges in the 03-06 Suburban will go out, one at a time until there’s no functioning gauges left.

If you’re having problems with more than one gauge or are experiencing other issues such as intermittent total power loss, dim digital displays, language scrolling across the odometer screen or other issues you’ll need to have the instrument cluster fully rebuilt.  With our full rebuild service we’ll replace all the gauge motors, all the lights and repair/replace many components on the circuit board that we’ve found to cause all kinds of problems with Suburban gauge clusters.

If you have any questions about your Suburban instrument cluster please email us at fred@drspeedometer.com or call out toll free number at 1-800-405-1056!

Cadillac Fleetwood Digital Instrument Cluster Problem

December 18, 2012 By fred Leave a Comment

Mr. Mahoney from Everett, MA called with a problem on his 95 Cadillac Fleetwood digital instrument cluster this week.  He said it would intermittently go out while driving down the road and that he could sometimes tap on the dash and it would come back on and we has hoping we could do the repair.  I told him this would be the first 1995 Fleetwood speedometer cluster I’d had come in but if he was willing to send it in I’d be happy to give it a try! Well after a couple hours of trouble shooting and some time with the wiring diagrams I was able to pinpoint the problem and make the repairs. I love taking on new challenges like this it really makes this work very interesting!

If you have an older digital cluster with intermittent power problems please give me a call or contact me by email for a quote!

Thanks,
Fred

Massive F4 tornado strikes near by, our prayers go out to the community

May 23, 2011 By fred Leave a Comment

Please pray for our neighbors in Joplin, we’ve got personal friends and family that has lost homes and survived very near misses in last night’s 6 mile long, 3/4 mile wide F4 tornado that ripped the town in half. Unfortunately at this time at least 90 people are confirmed dead and thousands injured – it will be years before Joplin recovers from the physical damage and the memory will likely never fade for those who live there.

Our prayers go out to the family members of those 90 souls and to the injured and those who’ve lost everything.

Our phones may be down or intermittent for the next day or so due to the near by tornado strike last night in Joplin, MO about 25 minutes from our office. We’ve lost power and are replying to emails remotely but we don’t expect any disruption in cluster repairs or UPS shipments, we’re hoping power is restored by the end of the day.

Canada – Need cluster repair in Canada? No Problem!

February 4, 2011 By fred

I’d like to say a big Thank You to all my Canadian customers and let everyone up in the Great White North know that we are happy to work with you to get your cluster repaired.

The process is slightly different in that you will need to package your cluster up and mail it to me and cover that cost on your end.  Most of my Canadian friends are using Canada Post for that and delivery times are reasonable at around a week.  I’ll cover the cost of the return shipment via USPS.  The amount you pay me is the same as for US customers and you can order using the regular order page here:  http://drspeedometer.com/how-to-buy

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to call me anytime at 1-800-405-1056.

Thanks!
Fred
